The guardnt.exe file is the process called Guard NT Onlinevirenschutz fur used by the application Ikarus Virus Utilities created by Ikarus Software. This program uses an icon on the taskbar. It is not a system process. It can record inputs. Ikarus Security Software provides security solutions for business and home. Ikarus Virus Utilities is an anti-virus application that provides protection against dialers, malicious codes, worms, viruses, Trojan horses and other known threats. The Guard is the monitoring utility of the software. It allows you to adjust the protection level. The software symbol will change to remind you of areas you have excluded from the scan. It will also indicate if the system protection is off by showing a red symbol and a reminder. The Scan feature allows you to scan either manually or automatically. It has preset scans including fast system scan that scans the Windows installation directory, system partition that scans the driver where the operating system is installed, whole computer that scans all drives and removable media that scans all external drives.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. guardnt.exe. is used by Ikarus Virus Utilities, If you shut down guardnt.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop guardnt.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Ikarus Virus Utilities, from your system.
