What is  guard.sys

The guard.sys file is a process used by the application AVG Anti-Spyware that is formerly known as Ewido Security Suite developed by AVG Technologies. It is not a visible program. It is not a system process. A driver is a computer application that controls or operates a particular device connected to the computer. It communicates with the device usually through a communications subsystem or a computer bus that is connected to the hardware. It issues commands to the connected device when a program calls for a routine from the driver. When the device sends back data, the driver will trigger routines in the program. A driver is operating-system-specific and dependent on hardware. The AVG Anti-Spyware provides protection from growing threats like hijackers, dialers, Trojans, worms, keyloggers and spyware. It supplements existing security programs to strengthen system protection. It has a shredder to secure file deletion. It includes heuristics for detecting unknown threats, BHO viewer, LSP viewer, generic crypter detection, generic binder detection, daily updates, cleaning and scanning of Windows registry and NTFS-ADS scanning support among others.
