What is  googledesktop.exe

The googledesktop.exe file is a program that runs Google Desktop, which is part of Google Internet tools. The application is also a plug-in for Digg. It serves as a search tool for users so they can retrieve all their documents from the computer and from the Web. The Search Box can be prompted to pop out on the desktop by pressing Ctrl twice; and pressing the same key twice once more will hide the Search Box. Problems encountered by some users were related to OS support, where googledesktop.exe was not compatible with the lower version of Windows installed on the computer. The problem showed up after updating Google Desktop. There were also issues with Google Desktop showing up on the Task Manager several times in a row, when in fact, the program was not being used. The culprit was found to be googledesktop.exe having a hard time indexing files that were corrupt or broken.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. googledesktop.exe. is used by Google Internet Tools, If you shut down googledesktop.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop googledesktop.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Google Internet Tools, from your system.
