It has a comprehensive scripting language referred to as the Game Maker Language (GML) that allows detailed modification of game elements well beyond its integrated tools. The software requires no prior understanding of programming or game creating experience. The development interface features a drag and drop system that allows users who are unfamiliar with traditional programming to intuitively create games by visually organizing icons on the screen. These icons represent actions that would occur in the game, such as basic drawing, movement, and simple control structures. The built-in GML allows the advanced users with programming experience to create games that are more complex.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. game_maker.exe. is used by Game Maker, If you shut down game_maker.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
