Gaim, renamed Pidgin, is a cross-platform instant messenger that supports multiple popular IM network protocols, allowing the user to log into various services from one application. The software runs on Windows, BSD, AmigaOS, Mac, and Linux/UNIX operating systems and communicates with AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, ICQ and other IM systems. Gaim (Pidgin) supports standard IM features such as chat logging, conversation and file transfer on supported protocols. It allows users to add contacts in the Buddy List window or in the IM window, and supports on-action automated scripts called Buddy Pounces to reach the user automatically in customizable ways. Gaim supports other features using third party plugins, which includes encryption and privacy through Off-the Record Messaging (OTR), notifications such as showing toaster popups or lighting LEDs on laptops, and watching videos directly into the conversation when receiving a video sharing website link such as YouTube and Vimeo.
