The ftd2xx.sys file is a system process that contains program logic data comprised of sequential command lines, modular resource references and directives as well as program-specific instructions. These pieces of program logic data are referenced by the FT8U232AX firmware application, which is bundled along with the driver software resources of certain USB chipsets from FTDI. This means the ftd2xx.sys file is also packaged with the firmware and driver software applications of these supported FTDI USB chipsets. The content stored in the ftd2xx.sys process is encoded with program logic compilation specifications and data storage standards that are normally integrated into content that is saved in the SYS format. The ftd2xx.sys file and the associated firmware and driver software applications of compatible FTDI USB chipsets are embedded with compatibility support for widely used versions of Microsoft Windows.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ftd2xx.sys. is used by FTDI USB Chipset Driver, If you shut down ftd2xx.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ftd2xx.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is FTDI USB Chipset Driver, from your system.
