The file fsservice.exe, known as FSService, belongs to software Folder Shield by BAxBex Software. This software is used to conceal complete folders that contain sensitive and confidential information that the user wants to hide or protect from unauthorized access. Folder Shield will completely hide the folder, and only the user will know that the hidden folder exists. It can be used to completely and securely conceal any directories under Windows 9x/ 2K/ ME/NT and Windows 7/Vista/XP, without any entry or password. Data and folders concealed with Folder Shield are also invisible in other applications and file manager utilities, including in MS DOS dialog boxes, making it invisible in the whole system. Concealment is enabled by the appropriate configuration settings and a hotkey or combination of hotkeys to make the selected folder disappear. Folder Shield operates on a driver basis and does not modify or encrypt the concealed data.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fsservice.exe. is used by Folder Shield, If you shut down fsservice.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fsservice.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Folder Shield, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Folder Shield, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
