The file fasttx2k.sys, known as Promise FastTrack Series Driver for Windows XP, belongs to software fasttx2k by Promise Technology. The fasttx2k is driver for the Ultra 133 TX2 controller card from Promise Technology that supports Maxtor's Fast Drive and Big Drive Technology. Ultra 133 TX2 is a shipping controller card that supports storage devices that exceed 137 GB. It is optimized to support Maxtor's Fast Drive Ultra ATA/133 interface specification, and enables users to transfer data at speeds of up to 133 MB/sec and access hard drive capacities beyond 137 GB. Ultra 133 TX2 increases data transfer rates between a hard disk drive and a personal computer up to 33 percent and supports Maxtor's 160 GB DiamondMax D540X and DiamondMax Plus 740X 80 GB drives that offer Ultra ATA/133. The controller card also supports hard disk drives from other manufacturers that conform to the Big Drive and Fast Drive specifications.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fasttx2k.sys. is used by fasttx2k, If you shut down fasttx2k.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fasttx2k.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is fasttx2k, from your system.
