The fallback.sys file is a driver file. It is the process called Fallback driver that is used by the application SoftK56 developed by Conexant Systems. A driver is a part of a software that can communicate with hardware devices. The location of this system file is in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. Known sizes for this file include 310,899 bytes, 303,171 bytes, 308,403 bytes and 310,739 bytes with 31% occurrence. You can access this driver under Services on the Windows Control Panel. There is no visible window for this program. This file has a digital signature from Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher with certificate issued by VeriSign Time Stamping Service. Conexant SoftK56 data fax modem driver is a software package that installs an update for the device driver of data fax modem on Windows ME, 98SE and NT 4.0 that is pre-installed on IBM computer. This update takes about 25 MB of hard disk space.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fallback.sys. is used by SoftK56, If you shut down fallback.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fallback.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is SoftK56, from your system.
