The fahcore_82.exe file is the process FahCore_82.exe that is used by the application Folding@home orginally created by Vinday Paje. The location of this process file is in the C:\Program Files subfolder or C:\Windows\System32 folder or C:\Documents and Settings subfolder. The size of this file is 1,683,456 bytes. The program Folding@home is used by Stanford University scientists for their studies of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s and how to cure them. Volunteer participants will install the program on their personal computers. The program will send them a problem to solve. After solving one problem, the program will send them another problem. They can get feedback or just let the program run using idle resources from the CPU. Their answers will help the scientists solve problems involving many calculations. The main focus of the studies is to understand folding, the assembly of proteins before they exert their functions. They also study the cause of misfolding or failure to fold correctly that causes diseases such as mentioned above.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fahcore_82.exe. is used by Folding@Home, If you shut down fahcore_82.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fahcore_82.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Folding@Home, from your system.
