The process escamblk.dll, known as Earthlink ScamBlocker, belongs to software Earthlink ScamBlocker by Earthlink. The program installs inside Internet Explorer as part of Earthlinks's browser toolbar, and it automatically downloads a list of known phisher sites, to keep Web surfers from accessing sites that are used to steal personal data. A phishing site is one that mimics a legitimate business for collecting credit card and other personal information. When the user tries to access a fraudulent site, ScamBlocker redirects the browser to an alerts page on Erathlink's server. This free browser-based toolbar provides real-time comprehensive protection from online fraud and identity theft. It displays a visual safety rating and provides the user real-time fraud analysis of all visited Web sites. As the user surfs the Internet, the ScamBlocker icon changes to let the user know if the visited site is dubious or potentially dangerous by flashing an icon with thumbs down.
