What is  edd.exe

The edd.exe process is an executable file that is packaged with the System Control Manager applet, which is also known as SCM Driver Daemon. The System Control Manager software or the SCM Driver Daemon application are virtual device drivers that are used by certain disk authoring tools. The edd.exe process is activated when a user accesses certain features of the associated virtual device application that implements the System Control Manager applet or the SCM Driver Daemon program to facilitate communications and data transmissions between the system, the virtual device and the applications that were used to install the virtual device in the system. This is done in order for the associated virtual device program and the SCM Driver Daemon applet or the System Control Manager software to perform the functions requested by the user.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. edd.exe. is used by System Control Manager or SCM Driver Daemon, If you shut down edd.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
