The dgapi.dll file is packaged with the Digital Guardian software, which was developed by Verdasys with a set of integrated functionalities for implementing data security and information protection features into LAN, WAN and remote networks. The dgapi.dll file is a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) module that contains program logic data encoded with source code compilation specifications used for files stored in the DLL format. These pieces of program logic data consist of modular resource instructions, application directives and sequential lines of code that are required by associated programs to perform their intended operations. When an associated functionality that corresponds to the source code stored in the dgapi.dll module is needed by any of the supported applications after a user request, certain files of the associated applications initialize in order to call on the dgapi.dll module among other program files, application-specific modules and modular system resources. This is done in order for the associated programs to reference the data stored in the dgapi.dll process, other modules and program files, so the user request can be implemented.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. dgapi.dll. is used by Verdasys Digital Guardian, If you shut down dgapi.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop dgapi.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Verdasys Digital Guardian, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Verdasys Digital Guardian, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
