The Creative Disc Detector software is an applet that is bundled with the firmware and driver software resources required by certain Creative audio cards, and this applet is implemented with a process called Disc Detector. This process is operated by the sequential lines of commands, modular directives and program logic code that are stored in the ctnotify.exe process and in other program files. The ctnotify.exe process is usually stored in a sub directory of the program folder where the Creative Disc Detector software was installed in the system, and this application folder is normally found in the Program Files folder of the system partition. The ctnotify.exe process, when activated by the user upon accessing integrated Creative Disc Detector features that correspond to the Disc Detector process, calls on other program files, application-specific modules and other required modular system resources, in order for the Creative Disc Detector application to provide the user with his or her selected functionalities. The ctnotify.exe process is mainly used by the Creative Disc Detector applet to notify and prompt users with a set of actions that they can perform when a CD or DVD is inserted into the CD/DVD drive of the computer and is detected by the Creative Disc Detector applet.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ctnotify.exe. is used by Creative Disc Detector, If you shut down ctnotify.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ctnotify.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Creative Disc Detector, from your system.
