What is  csrst.exe

The csrst.exe process is an executable file that has been identified by the anti-malware tools of many users as a malicious application associated with the Suspect-AK!E59A16F7C9E0 program, which is a family of backdoor rootkits and Trojans known to infect and steal private user details and Internet surfing information from unprotected Windows-based computers with outdated OS security certificates, unencrypted TCP/IP network ports and an unsecured Windows System Registry. Other user groups claim that their system security tools flag the csrst.exe process as a malware item related to a variant of the Win32/Rbot.gen application, which is another family of backdoor rootkits and Trojans reported to be embedded with spyware functionalities. In both cases, these users claim that the csrst.exe malware is capable of creating and injecting keys and entries into the unsecured Windows System Registry of the unprotected computer, especially in systems with missing or outdated OS security certificates, which is performed right after the successful initial placement and activation of the csrst.exe malware in the computer. These users also claim that these registry strings allow the csrst.exe malware to automatically initialize during system startup, to operate as a cloacked background process during system runtime, and to exploit unencrypted TCP/IP network ports of the unprotected system. These operations allow this malware to download more malicious applications unto the system, to receive instructions or directives from remote servers that are said to be managed by the authors of the csrst.exe malware, and to upload stolen private user data and Web browsing information to these remote servers.
