What is  cryptext.dll

The file cryptext.dll is associated with File Encryption Shell Extension, or Crypto Shell Extensions, and is a part of Cryptographic Application Programming Interface, which is developed by Microsoft Corporation. Cryptographic Application Programming Interface, sometimes referred to as Microsoft Cryptography API, CryptoAPI, MS-CAPI or simply CAPI, is a type of application programming interface, and is bundled within the Microsoft Windows Operating System, such as Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows ME. What this application does is to provide various services that allow developed the means to secure Windows-based programs, with the use of cryptography. A Shell Open Command enables for an association of a file extension and a program, and the association launches a program to run when it is manually executed, so that is what cryptext.dll exactly does. The file is loaded by another process called explorer.exe, which is technically termed as Windows Explorer, and is also a product by Microsoft Corporation. In addition, cryptext.dll has a digital signature by the same manufacturer, Microsoft Windows - Microsoft Time-Stamp Service.
