The compete.exe process is an executable component file of the Compete Toolbar software, which is a Windows program classified as a Web browser add-on tool or a BHO (Browser Helper Object) plugin application that was developed by Compete.Com with a set of features to provide users with the Compete.Com rank and online traffic statistics of websites that are currently loaded in the Web browser window. Compete.Com is a Web analytics and traffic information provider, and the Compete Toolbar software is suitable for Windows users who manage websites and implement Internet marketing campaigns. The compete.exe process is deployed into the system by the Compete Toolbar software as its executable program dispatcher file, which means users can load the Compete Toolbar software unto the system and access its UI (User Interface) by activating the compete.exe file. The compete.exe process, upon its execution, calls on other component EXE files and references various DLL (Dynamic Link Library) modules of the Compete Toolbar application, in order to implement the UI components of the Compete Toolbar software and integrate its embedded set of functionalities into the Internet Explorer Web browser, and into more recent versions of Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. compete.exe. is used by Compete Toolbar, If you shut down compete.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop compete.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Compete Toolbar, from your system.
