The Comcast Toolbar software implements the comcastau.dll file, which is a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) module, into the system as the AUX BHO (Browser Helper Object) library that is referenced by the Comcast Toolbar program when this application is required to implement its embedded set of functionalities and UI (User Interface) components into the Internet Explorer Web browser or into a compatible Mozilla Firefox Web browser version. The Comcast Toolbar software is distributed to all XFINITY subscribers, and the comcastau.dll module is placed in the system upon the installation of the Comcast Toolbar software, which means the comcastau.dll file is included as one of the component libraries that are packaged with other resource files and component modules into the installer distributions of the Comcast Toolbar program.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. comcastau.dll. is used by Comcast Toolbar and Comcast Toolbar AUX BHO (Browser Helper Object) Library, If you shut down comcastau.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop comcastau.dll, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Comcast Toolbar and Comcast Toolbar AUX BHO (Browser Helper Object) Library, from your system.
