Owned and developed by Novell, Inc., colw32.exe is the executable file for Novell ZENworks, a collection of software products for computer system management. Novell, Inc. developed Configuration Management Inventory, a program that aims to provide quality management and control on the entire life cycle of network servers, of the Windows and Linux PC desktops and laptops, as well as handheld or portable devices such as PDAs or personal digits assistants. ZENworks has recently included the functionality of the full-disk encryption. ZENworks provides support for multiple server platforms as well as support for multiple directory services. ZENworks system management may include any one or more tasks from among the following function: • Hardware inventories • Software inventory and installation • Server availability monitoring and metrics • Anti-virus and anti-malware management • Capacity monitoring • User’s activity monitoring • Security management • Network capacity and utilization monitoring • Storage management • Anti-manipulation management

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. colw32.exe. is used by Novell ZENworks, If you shut down colw32.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop colw32.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Novell ZENworks, from your system.
