What is cmrss.exe
The cmrss.exe file is an executable process that has been flagged by the anti-malware tools of many users as a malicious application associated with the WORM_VB.IYA program, which is a family of worms known to infect unprotected Windows-based computers. Other users claim that the cmrss.exe process was classified by their system security tools as a variant of the W32.Ceted application, which is another family of worms. As a worm, both user groups state that the cmrss.exe process is embedded with self-replicating functionalities, which means the cmrss.exe process is said to be capable of creating copies of itself and placing these duplicates in various directorie and sub directories of the infected Windows-based system, for transmission to other computers that are connected to the same network or viia email to the IM (Instant Messaging) and mailing list contacts of the user. These users also claim that the cmrss.exe process is integrated with self-activating functionalities, which means the cmrss.exe process is said to automatically run during system startup, and some users state that the cmrss.exe process is capable of doing this because of certain keys and entries it can create and inject into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the system. These Windows System Registry keys and entries are said to instruct the system to allow the cmrss.exe process to automatically initialize during system startup and operate as a hidden background process during system runtime.
