The cm.dll file has been reported by many users, upon detection of their anti-malware tools, as a malicious program associated with the Win32/Bagle.CM.dll application, which is a family of Trojans known to infect unprotected Windows-based systems. These same users claim that the cm.dll file is disguised as a legitimate DLL (Dynamic Link Library) module, in order to trick users into thinking that this malicious program is a valid system process whenever they see it in the processes list of the Windows Task Manager (as a background process). These users also state that the cm.dll file starts to implement its Trojan functionalities upon its successful placement and activation in the Windows-based system, by creating and injecting keys and entries into the Windows System Registry, in order for the system to allow the cm.dll file to automatically run during system startup. Upon its successful automatic initialization, the cm.dll file is then said to exploit unencrypted TCP/IP network ports and outdated Web browsers that it finds in the system, in order to initiate contact with remote servers that are operated and managed by the authors of the cm.dll file. These users also claim that, upon successfully establishing communications with these remote servers, the cm.dll file begins to download more malicious programs unto the system, and when idle, the cm.dll file waits for directives from these remote servers and performs these procedures upon receipt of further instructions from these remote servers.
