What is  chkdisk.exe

The chkdisk.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by many users as a possible malicious program disguised as the legitimate chkdsk.exe process. These users claim that their system security tools flag the chkdisk.exe process as a possible Trojan that can compromise the stability of their Windows-based systems and the security of the data stored in their external and internal storage disks. The legitimate chkdsk.exe process is the executable program dispatcher file of a built-in Windows utility with a set of features for checking disk errors and repairing these issues, and the possible malware process known as chkdisk.exe has been reported to automatically initialize during system startup because of certain keys and entries it is said to be capable of creating and inserting into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the Windows-based system. The chkdisk.exe malware is also said to be capable of exploiting unprotected TCP/IP network ports that it finds in the infected system, in order to use these ports to contact remote servers that are managed by its authors and download more malicious applications unto the system from these Web servers.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. chkdisk.exe. is used by Malware/Trojan, If you shut down chkdisk.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop chkdisk.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Malware/Trojan, from your system.
