The certmngr.exe process is an executable file that has been reported by many users as a malicious program disguised as the legitimate certmgr.exe process. The valid certmgr.exe file is implemented into Windows-based computers as a system process that is responsible for executing the Certificate Manager application, which is a small program built into widely used versions of Microsoft Windows. The Certificate Manager application handles verification processes and organizes or flags certificates bundled with certain applications for inclusion into its database of CTLs (Certificate Trust Lists) or CRLs (Certificate Revocation Lists). The certmngr.exe process, which is said to be the illegitimate version of the certmgr.exe file, is capable of automatically initializing during system startup, according to some users, because the certmngr.exe process is said to be integrated with the ability to create and inject keys and entries into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the system. Some of these users claim that the certmngr.exe process is embedded with Trojan-like functionalities, specifically the ability to initiate contact with third party Web servers in order to download more malicious programs unto the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. certmngr.exe. is used by Malware/Trojan, If you shut down certmngr.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop certmngr.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Malware/Trojan, from your system.
