BootVis is an application that runs when the bootvis.exe file is executed on the computer. It is a boot time performance application that helps users and developers determine how long it takes for the system to boot and how long it takes before the user can access their programs from the desktop shortcut after boot-up. The software was developed by PerfVis for Microsoft Windows XP. There have been conflicting reports regarding the application, where some users claim that it helps boot performance, while others claim that it is just a tool to inform users about the time it takes for their system to boot, and nothing more than this. Whatever the case, the file appears to be no longer available for download directly from the Microsoft website. There are however, quite a few other download websites that still provide the software for download, free of charge. The file is usually installed in its default folder of C:\Program Files.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. bootvis.exe. is used by BootVis for Windows, If you shut down bootvis.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop bootvis.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is BootVis for Windows, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.
