The executable process file, backgrounddownloader.exe (version 3.0.0.1650) is part of the software Blizzard Downloader, Auctioneer AddOns or World of Warcraft as developed by the Company, Blizzard Entertainment. It runs in the Task Manager as the process, backgrounddownloader.exe, which is a downloader of Blizzard Downloader from Blizzard Entertainment, considered as a patch downloader for World of Warcraft that is required in order to execute the game, thus it is incapable of patching to the latest version without it. The process file, backgrounddownloader.exe is not a Windows system file and neither is it considered as CPU intensive. An icon is visibly seen, located next to the clock on the taskbar. The process file is also found to be located in Program File\world or Warcraft folder in the subfolder C:\Program File with the directory of H:\Program File 2\World of Warcraft. On Windows 7/XP, it has a file size of 766,212 bytes at 55% of all occurrences, or 2,172,400 bytes with 5 other variants. The signer of the certificate for the process file is Blizzard Entertainment which certificate is issued by Verisign Time Stamping Services Signer-G2. It functions as having the ability to record inputs, thus uses ports to connect to the Internet or LAN.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. backgrounddownloader.exe. is used by Blizzard Downloader, If you shut down backgrounddownloader.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop backgrounddownloader.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Blizzard Downloader, from your system.
