The avshellext.dll file pertains to the process called Windows Live OneCare AV Shell Extension that is used by the program Windows Live OneCare developed by Microsoft Corporation. Its core technology is the multi-platform Reliable Antiviurs or RAV that the company purchased in 2003 from GeCAD Software Srl. It has been available through paid annual subscription for a maximum of 3 computers. It has been discontinued eventually. Microsoft replaced Windows Live OneCare on November 18, 2008 with a free anti-malware suite known as Microsoft Security Essentials.
