The avgwb.dat file is the process called Grisoft AVG AntiVirus Free that is used by the application AVG Internet Security that is developed by GRISOFT, s.r.o or now known as AVG Technologies. This process protects the computer from threats such as Trojans and spyware that are bound on the Internet and are distributed through unauthorized access to the computer or through E-mails. It helps to maintain secure and stable operations for your computer. It is a non-system process that functions from the software that you installed in the computer system. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition offers basic protection such as Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus with AVG LinkScanner for safe surfing and searching. This edition is licensed for non-commercial and home use only. It has limitations compared to the commercial edition such as no E-mail or telephone technical support, infrequent updates and no server support.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. avgwb.dat. is used by Grisoft or AVG Internet Security, If you shut down avgwb.dat, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop avgwb.dat, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Grisoft or AVG Internet Security, from your system.
