Known sizes for this file include 27,473 bytes and 27,477 bytes with 40% occurrence on Windows XP or Windows 7 operating system. It is not a visible program. It is not a core file for Windows. The program loads when Windows boots up. The registry key is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or Registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Most antivirus programs have classified this process file as a malware. The av_md.exe process can create or delete other processes on disk. It registers a DLL or dynamic link library file. It performs process hijacking by writing on another process’s virtual memory. It executes or terminates a process. It modifies, creates or schedules batch jobs. It also creates new folders on your system. It injects codes to other processes. It is encrypted or packed by a software packing process. It utilizes rootkit techniques to hide its presence or to resist removal or interrogation.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. av_md.exe. is used by TrojanDownloader: Win32/Cutwail.AQ, If you shut down av_md.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop av_md.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is TrojanDownloader: Win32/Cutwail.AQ, from your system.
