What is  atservice.exe

Developed by AuthenTec Incorporated, atservice.exe is the process file for AFSS or AuthenTec Fingerprint Security System, an application which enables users to log on to the computer by using a biometric fingerprint reader that will serve as a password. To prevent pre-image attacks, a cryptographic hash process used in fingerprinting should possess second pre-image resistance properties. If the threat is a collision attack, the hash process should possess collision-resistance properties. While truncating hash process is acceptable for shorter, more usable fingerprint output, truncated fingerprints should be long enough in order to preserve its properties against search attack threats. In systems like cryptographic peer-to-peer networks, the fingerprints are embedded in pre-existing name and address formats. If being exchanged by trusted channels, this method allows the fingerprints to piggyback. In PGP or Pretty Good Privacy, a data encryption/decryption computer program, most keys are being created in a way that the key ID equates to the lower 64 or 32 bits of key fingerprints. It uses key IDs in referring to public keys on a variety of purposes.
