What is  arcmap.exe

The process arcmap.exe, referred to as ArcMap, is a background application for the software ArcGIS from Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI). This application allows theories regarding geographical science and computer-aided designs to work together to create graphical map images for several uses. With this application, uploading of created maps to be viewed by other users is also possible. Because the background process arcmap.exe supports the said application, this file, when running, is able to connect to an available internet connection when prompted by the user. It also has access to commands placed to peripherals attached to the computer. This is not a core file of Windows, or any operating system. This file arcmap.exe is located inside the program files folder of the local drive directory and uses approximately 1.4 MB storage size. It does not pull up any visible window when running.

How can I stop arcmap.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. arcmap.exe. is used by ArcGIS, If you shut down arcmap.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop arcmap.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ArcGIS, from your system.
