The file anc.sys refers to the background process IBM Access Connections - ANC which supports the driver for noise reduction of several audio cards. The said driver is from IBM Corp. and generally functions as a support for peripherals or hardware that has the function to cancel or minimize sounds on a noisy environment, such as public transportation areas, and isolates the sounds that should only be captured or recorded by the system. Since this file is a system file for drivers, its main function is to make connections from the attached computer peripheral to the main computer in order for both to function as expected. Anc.sys does not pull up any visible window when running, and is not a core file of Windows or any operating system. It is commonly located inside the drivers subfolder of the system 32 subfolder of Windows under the local hard drive and eats up and average of 9 KB to 12 KB of storage space.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. anc.sys. is used by IBM Access Connections - ANC, If you shut down anc.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop anc.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is IBM Access Connections - ANC, from your system.
