What is alerter.exe
The alerter.exe file is an EXE application process that has been reported by many users as a malicious application associated with the Generic PWS spyware and the Infostealer program, which is a family of spyware components. Other user reports claim that the alerter.exe process belongs to the Trojan-PSW.Win32.Maha.f software, which is a family of Trojans. As a spyware component, the alerter.exe process has been reported by some users to be capable of automatically initializing during system startup and covertly running in the system as a background process, in order to collect private user data and Internet surfing information from the infected system and its default Web browser, in which these details are said to be transmitted by the alerter.exe process to remote servers that are operated and managed by its authors. As a Trojan, the alerter.exe process is said to be capable of exploiting unprotected TCP/IP network ports of unsecure Windows-based systems, and these compromised TCP/IP network ports are then said to be used by the alerter.exe process for downloading more malicious programs unto the system from the Web servers of its authors.
