Known by the service name a-squared Guard, or a-squared Guard application, or Background Guard, the process called a2guard.exe, is a part of the software product Emsisoft Anti-Malware, also a-squared Personal, or a-squared Anti-Malware, which is developed by Emsi Software GmbH, or EmsiSoft GmbH. Emsisoft Anti-Malware is basically a security program that is designed and used to protect the computer, particularly its data and system, against malware, viruses, Trojan horses, and other threats caused by the Internet. The a2guard.exe file is not just a component of the software, but also a digitally signed process (Emsi Software GmbH - DigiCert Timestamp Responder), so that makes it a legitimate and essential module that needs to continuously run in the background. Moreover, a2guard.exe is compatible with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, which include Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows ME, but regardless, this file must still be kept stored and functional, so terminating it is not advisable.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. a2guard.exe. is used by Emsisoft Anti-Malware or a-squared Personal or a-squared Anti-Malware, If you shut down a2guard.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop a2guard.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Emsisoft Anti-Malware or a-squared Personal or a-squared Anti-Malware, from your system.
