The ymmapi.dll process is a modular Dyanmic Link Library )DLL) file included with other DLL files, certain executable program resources, some SYS driver files, specific background process items and various associated components that are needed by Yahoo! software products. These are Windows programs classified as online applications that were developed by Yahoo! with a set of features for email and music or file download management among other Web-related functionalities. The ymmapi.dll file can accommodate simultaneous referencing requests from multiple Yahoo! programs because its program logic data is stored in the DLL file format. Some of these Yahoo! software products that use the ymmapi.dll file include the Yahoo! Toolbar Web browser add-on and various SBC Yahoo! applications. The ymmapi.dll file is integrated into the installer distribution packages of these Yahoo! software products, which means the ymmapi.dll file is placed in the system upon the installation and configuration of these Yahoo! programs.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ymmapi.dll. is used by Yahoo! Software Products, If you shut down ymmapi.dll, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
