The winsec.exe process is an executable file that has been stated in many reports as an undesirable program variant of the CoolWebSearch malware. The winsec.exe process has also been reported to be camouflaged as a legitimate Windows system component called Windows Security Assistant, in order to trick users into downloading and activating the winsec.exe file in their systems. Upon the execution of the winsec.exe process, this malicious program has been reported to be capable of creating keys and entries that it injects into the Windows System Registry, which allows the winsec.exe process to automatically activate during system startup. The winsec.exe process continues to operate in the background without user consent upon its automatic activation, in order to search for vulnerable TCP/IP network ports that it can use to transmit pieces of data and Internet browsing information it has collected from the infected system and its default Web browser to predesignated Web servers that are most likely operated and managed by the authors of the winsec.exe process.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. winsec.exe. is used by CoolWebSearch, If you shut down winsec.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop winsec.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is CoolWebSearch, from your system.
