Digitally signed and developed by Microsoft Corporation, usbhub.sys is the executable file for Default Hub Driver for the Windows operating system. A USB hub is a commonly known device used for expanding a USB port use into several gateways to accommodate more ports for device connections. USB hubs are built into computers, monitors, keyboards, and printers. Devices that have many USB ports usually stem from a single or double internal USB hub instead of individual USB circuitry per single port. USB ports are usually closely spaced, which plugging a device into a single port physically blocks an adjacent port, specifically when the plugged jack is not a part of the cable but an integral component to a device like a USB flash drive. Laptops are now equipped with multiple USB ports compared to CPUs with external USB hubs for consolidating several devices such as mouse and printers into one single hub to provide one-step attachment and/or removal of all connecting devices.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. usbhub.sys. is used by USB Hub, If you shut down usbhub.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop usbhub.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is USB Hub, from your system.
