Umonit.exe is the executable file for USB Monitor, the software that displays the alert when a USB device is detected upon plug in to the USB port. The file’s function is based on the MediaGear USB version 2.0 Card Reader. A standard interface is provided to allow connection of computer peripherals by utilizing a standard single interface socket for the connection of devices without having to restart the computer. Umonit.exe runs in the background for its monitoring function together with its basic job of device detection and alert prompt. When the MediaGear Card Reader is plugged in, umonit.exe informs the user that the connected device is able to transfer music, pictures, documents and videos. The device communicates with the use of the flash memory card, a data storage device usually aided with digital cameras, handheld or mobile computers, phones, game consoles, and music players. MediaGear Card Reader has high recording capability, power-free, unbelievably small but able to function well in rugged conditions. Its non-volatile memory can be electronically reprogrammed or erased to free data storage while able to transfer data between digital computers and products.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. umonit.exe. is used by MediaGear USB 2.0 Card Reader Driver, If you shut down umonit.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop umonit.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is MediaGear USB 2.0 Card Reader Driver, from your system.
