The tsmapip.sys process is a system file packaged with certain EXE program files, other SYS driver resources, some DLL modules and associated components that are required by the firmware and driver software resources of various IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop models. The tsmapip.sys file is deployed as one of the system driver components of some modules that are built into these IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad firmware and driver software resources, one of which is the IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Configuration Utility module. The tsmapip.sys file is integrated into the installer distributions of these IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad firmware and driver software packages, which also means the tsmapip.sys process is placed in the system as a background process upon the installation and configuration of these IBM/Lenovo firmware and driver software components for compatible IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop models.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tsmapip.sys. is used by IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Configuration Utility Module, If you shut down tsmapip.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tsmapip.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad Configuration Utility Module, from your system.
