Designed especially for IBM laptops, tp4ex.exe is the driver file that activates Trackpoint, the startup system of IBM Thinkpad computers. The system program loads after boot up, activating the Windows features and all connecting devices particularly the Touchpoint mouse, the track pointer that is built-in with IBM laptop keyboards. Touchpoint looks like a red stick with three clicker buttons lined below the spacebar. This unique non-slip pointing device enables users the select-and-drag motion to allow function without moving the fingers from typing position. The Touchpoint is made with a slightly rough material, and operates by an applied force moving in any direction parallel to keyboard. The movement speed depends on the applied pressure on the stick. The click buttons function depending on the user’s preferred configurations to the tp4ex.exe file. The pointer stick is tapped perform a left-click function, the common clicking method known to almost all users. Tp4ex.exe enables users to adjust the sensitivity level of Touchpoint down to the lightest touch.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. tp4ex.exe. is used by IBM ThinkPad Drivers, If you shut down tp4ex.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop tp4ex.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is IBM ThinkPad Drivers, from your system.
