The process executed through the file swupdtmr.exe is called Software Upgrades or Software Updater for Toshiba laptops. This is not a critical file to have running in the background because it is not a core component of your OS. It is also not a core file for your laptop hardware or devices. This being said, a number of users have opted to disable the file to save on CPU memory. The file is pre-configured to run every time you boot your PC, and it runs as a background Windows service to look for updates. If you do not wish the file to run automatically every time you start the PC, you may remove it from your startup programs. The file’s startup identifier is “Swupdtmr.” It has a typical file location of C:\toshiba\ivp\swupdate\swupdtmr.exe. Its parent process is services.exe, and its known size is 109.36 kilobytes. It has an average CPU utilization of 0.00996%, and an estimated RAM usage of 744 KB.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. swupdtmr.exe. is used by Software Updater, If you shut down swupdtmr.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop swupdtmr.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Software Updater, from your system.
