What is  svchost.com

The svchost.com process is a Windows file and a component of Generic Host Process for Win32 Services software, which is developed by Microsoft Corporation. Known by the same service name Generic Host Process for Win32 Services, svchost.com runs in the background once it is installed on a Windows computer. As a Generic Service Host, this file is considered as a “host” for other modules or programs related to it. This service is able to allow other processes work, for instance, letting other required functions to access the Internet, if the web connectivity is turned on. In contrast, if some functions are disabled, the user finds his or her Internet connection is not working. A good example is the DNS is disabled, the user cannot type in the complete web address of a particular website, but he or she can type in the IP address of the system. What this means is that web connectivity may be working, but it does not mean some essential parts of the process to browse the Internet are properly functioning.
