The process SetRefresh is usually already pre-installed in HP laptops via the file setrefresh.exe. According to users’ reviews and comments regarding the file, it appears to function as a monitor optimizer, providing a utility to control screen resolution. This is a non-system file which means that it is not essential to system performance. However, if the file came pre-installed on your HP machine, it is best to keep the file installed. You may disable it instead if you do not want it running in the background. The file is generally considered as a safe file to have on the PC, unless it has already been modified by a virus. File directory is C:\Program Files\Compaq\SetRefresh\setrefresh.exe. File size usually installed in computers running on Windows 7 OS ranges from 485,376 to 525,824 bytes. So far, the file has not been identified as a PC threat, and there have also not been any reports about a different process having the same file name.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. setrefresh.exe. is used by SetRefresh Utility, If you shut down setrefresh.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
