Remote Compiler is the application that is installed when the rc.exe file is executed. This is usually installed through the software that installs Visual Basics. If this file is not found in your Visual Basics installer, or you may have deleted it by accident; you can download the file from the Microsoft website. The file’s most basic definition is that it allows developers to create programs that will be compatible on Windows-based PCs. The compiler basically takes all the resources for the file, i.e. binary files, and then put these together with the file definition to create a binary resource file. When the .RES file has been created, the developer can load this in their Visual Basics project; which then makes the file available and executable on any Windows-based computer. The application uses modules stored in the rcdll.dll file. The file’s general location on disk is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0a\Bin\rc.exe. Issues regarding the file such as error in spawning rc.exe were usually found to be caused by errors in Visual Basics installation and setup.
