The pccntmon.exe process is a component of the PC-cillin Antivirus suite. The file updates the user’s anti-virus software in order to retain its up to date status against the latest virus threats. This is a non-system process, which means the process originated from the software the user installed within his or her computer system. Since most of the applications are used to store date within the user’s registry, it is likely that the user’s registry suffered from fragmentation and had accumulated invalid entries which may affect the user’s PC performance. The process is considered safe by the users and unlikely to pose any problems. Although the process is a non-system process, it should remain intact within the computer system and should not be terminated unless it is specifically causing problems for the user’s computer system. The file is not considered CPU intensive and to reduce system overload, the user can use the Microsoft System Configuration Utility in order to manually find and disable the processes that are launched upon the start-up process.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. pccntupd.exe. is used by PC-cillin Antivirus Suite, If you shut down pccntupd.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop pccntupd.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is PC-cillin Antivirus Suite, from your system.
