The lsmass.exe is a process file that may be associated with the Virage or LMS software which has been developed by Microsoft. The process file may also be identified as NT Kernel and System. When lsmass.exe is executed from the computer system, the associated program like Virage or LMS becomes active. As an NT Kernel and System process, lsmass.exe helps in preventing the operating system to crash by separating the user programs from those controlled by a kernel process. The Virage software uses lsmass.exe. This software provides professional application services which involves video and media communication, such as VS Webcasting, VS Publishing, and VS Production. Its technology program, called SmartEncode, includes VideoLogger and Media Analysis Plug-ins, Virage ControlCenter, MediaSync, and Database Plug-Ins. The Learning Management System (LMS) software also uses lsmass.exe. It is an application for administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of education courses or training programs. It also provides online college courses and training over the Internet.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. lsmass.exe. is used by Virage / LMS, If you shut down lsmass.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop lsmass.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Virage / LMS, from your system.
