The lighttpd.exe process is an executable program file that is used by the LightTPD software, which is an open source Web server application designed with cross platform compatibility support. The lighttpd.exe process is distributed alongside other EXE application resources, certain SYS driver utilities, particular background process items, some DLL (Dynamic Link Library) modules and various components that are used by the LightTPD Web server software developed for widely used versions of Microsoft Windows. This means the lighttpd.exe process and these associated components are placed in the system upon the installation of the LightTPD Web server software version for Microsoft Windows, which also means the lighttpd.exe file and these resource items are integrated into the installer distribution packages of the LightTPD Web server software, specifically the Windows version of this open source Web server program.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. lighttpd.exe. is used by LightTPD Web Server, If you shut down lighttpd.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop lighttpd.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is LightTPD Web Server, from your system.
