What is  hostnt.sys

The hostnt.sys file is the process called HOSTNT that is used by the application HOSTNT created by Mike McCormack. This process file is a driver. This program does not use a visible window. It is not a core file for Windows. A driver is a computer program that controls or operates a certain device connected to the computer. It directs commands to the connected device when a program sends instructions for a task to be done. It will call for routines from the program once the device sends back data. It communicates with the device usually by means of a communications subsystem or computer bus that is connected to the hardware. Host NT is a server that begins an NT native application and prints messages coming from it on console. A native program does not have an associated console that it does not provide direct output. Instead, the HostNT makesa mailslot to listen for messages. The native program sends messages to mailslot and sets an event flag. The HostNT will then print them on the console. HostNT is a tool for writing short applications that monitor behavior of NT Native API.
