What is  gmt.exe

The gmt.exe file belongs to the group of process files implemented by the Gator Advertising Information Network (GAIN) as adware applications, and the gmt.exe file is also known as Gator Adware. The gmt.exe file and other Gator Adware items were developed by GAIN Publishing, the gmt.exe process and other active Gator Adware applications are integrated with the capability to gather Web surfing information from the default Web browser of the infected computer when active. The gmt.exe process and other Gator Adware programs also have the capability to transmit the pieces of data gathered from an infected computer to predesignated Web servers. The gmt.exe file contains sequential command lines, program-specific instructions, application-specific module directives and modular system resource references that are used by this Gator Adware program to instruct the Windows system to allow it to initialize during startup and runtime as well as access certain pieces of data stored by the default Web browser of the computer in specific sub directories and directories of the system partition.

How can I stop gmt.exe and should I?

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. gmt.exe. is used by Gator Adware, If you shut down gmt.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop gmt.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Gator Adware, from your system.
