Firmware Auto Update service is the process that installs when the executable file fwupdate.exe is launched. This service is usually pre-installed in PCs or laptops that have internal LG devices installed on them. The file may also be installed when you attach an external LG device to the PC, and you run the driver that came with your computer peripheral. The file, as its name suggests, updates the firmware of your LG devices. Usually, what users recommend is to upgrade the firmware once, and then ignore all other upgrades for as long as the devices are working properly. Users have discovered that allowing the file to get every update available, provided at certain intervals, usually causes the device to malfunction. It is generally recommended therefore, that the file be disabled once it has completed its initial update. File location is C:\program files\lg_fwupdate\fwupdate.exe. Usual file sizes for Windows XP and 7 are between 249,856 and 557,056 bytes.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. fwupdate.exe. is used by Firmware Auto Update, If you shut down fwupdate.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop fwupdate.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Firmware Auto Update, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Firmware Auto Update, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
