The file exdl1.exe, known as Download Module, belongs to software Download Module by eXact Advertising. The Download Module is a component of software NAVISearch, which is adware that displays search listings in a background window. This browser helper object (BHO) installs as Microsoft Internet Explorer plugin module. NAVISearch listings are displayed as "search helper" when the user has typed text into the address bar or search boxes of the Web browser that would normally resolve to a "404 Page not found". The NAVISearch helper tries to deduce what content the user was searching for, and present relevant ad-supported sponsored results. This BHO delivers relevant contextual information to the user in the form of advertisements and other notifications that may be displayed on the computer screen at any time while the user is online. Exact Advertising may install various other spyware applications into the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. exdl1.exe. is used by Download Module, If you shut down exdl1.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop exdl1.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Download Module, from your system.
